Provost's Data Literacy Fellows

Overview

Wayne State University is committed to fostering a data-informed culture to advance diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) efforts. As part of this commitment, and in alignment with the Data-Informed DEI Quality Initiative, the Provost's Office is pleased to announce the Provost's Data Literacy Fellows program. This program will empower faculty, staff, and administrators with the knowledge, skills, and mindset to use data effectively in decision-making processes that promote educational equity.

About the Data Literacy Institute (DLI)

Please join the Provost's Office in congratulating the 29 Provost's Data Literacy Fellows who will participate in the 12-week Data Literacy Institute (DLI) offered by the Association for Institutional Research (AIR). The DLI is designed to cultivate data literacy through a comprehensive curriculum that covers:

  • Asking the right questions
  • Collecting and analyzing data
  • Interpreting and communicating results
  • Making data-informed decisions
  • Assessing the impact of decisions

Fellowship Benefits

Fellows will:

  • Develop a deep understanding of data literacy principles and practices.
  • Gain hands-on experience with data analysis tools and techniques.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across campus to address real-world challenges.
  • Become a leader in promoting data-informed decision-making at WSU.
  • Network with peers and experts in the field of institutional research.
  • Share knowledge and skills gained through the DLI by developing and facilitating workshops for the broader campus community.

Eligibility and Expectations

  • Open to all full-time faculty, staff, and administrators at Wayne State University.
  • Demonstrated interest in using data to advance DEI initiatives.
  • Commitment to attending all DLI sessions and actively participating in group projects.
  • Willingness to share knowledge and skills with colleagues upon completion of the program.

Time Commitment

  • 12-week program (specific dates during the Winter 2025 semester to be determined)
  • Approximately 5 hours per week commitment, including:
    • 1 hour of pre-learning (tutorials, discussion board posts)
    • 2-hour live virtual seminar
    • 2-hour group capstone project work
  • Additional time commitment for developing and facilitating at least one workshop on data literacy for the WSU community after completing the DLI.

Selection Process

The Quality Initiative Advisory Committee (QIAC) review all applications and selected fellows based on their qualifications and the needs of the DLI project.
